Cigarette smoking during pregnancy and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke can have significant health implications for mothers, babies and children. This article aims to provide information about the morbidity associated with cigarette smoking and how to assess and advise pregnant women. A framework of the available services will be discussed to empower GPs to motivate and inspire pregnant women to stop smoking.
