Abstract
Innovation in the developing world sounds simple but may have significant repercussions, both positive and negative dependent upon the source from where that innovation emanates. The concept of innovation from various sources including from the West and from within the developing world is discussed. In addition, the concept of reverse or frugal innovation is presented with particular reference to the INTEREST program of the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, an outreach program by volunteer surgeons teaching endocrine surgery in the developing world.
