Introduction:
The transoral thyroidectomy vestibular approach has emerged as a new remote access surgical technique for the treatment of thyroid disease. 1 With the benefit of being “scarless,” this type of natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery has proven to be safe and feasible. 2 As more experience is gained worldwide, the technique is refined. In this video, we present a comprehensive technical description of the transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach, including details of the preoperative preparation along with tips and tricks of the surgical technique.
Materials and Methods:
This video presentation describes the technical aspect with tips and tricks of a total thyroidectomy performed through the endoscopic vestibular approach.
Results:
The technical aspect of the transoral endoscopic total thyroidectomy vestibular approach is demonstrated in this video. A step-by-step procedure description with tips and tricks of the positioning of the patient, intubation, preparation, and draping with instruments setup, subplatysmal flap creation, endoscopic port placement, thyroid gland dissection, parathyroid gland dissection and preservation, recurrent laryngeal nerve identification and neuromonitoring, and specimen extraction along with postoperative care is provided.
Conclusions:
The transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach arises as a new remote access surgery for the treatment of thyroid disease and is gaining popularity worldwide. This video describes the technical aspect of the transoral thyroidectomy with demonstration of tips and tricks of this new procedure.
