Abstract
The follicular variant of papillary thyroid cancer could be viewed as either a mixture of tumors or a hybrid of two tumor types. Some tumors behave more like classic papillary thyroid cancers in terms of nodal metastases, some behave like invasive follicular tumors, and some behave like follicular adenomas. Clinical observation, careful pathologic analysis, and molecular characterization can help to guide clinical care along lines similar to papillary thyroid cancers, invasive follicular tumors, or follicular adenomas. The noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasms with papillary features tumors should be treated as benign follicular adenomas. Thus, FVPTC should be managed as one of three distinct subtypes.
