Abstract
Pediatric gender clinics are a uniquely safe and affirming space for transgender and gender diverse (TGD) youth to be forthcoming about safety and risk concerns. Given this group of young people are at increased risk for suicidality and self-harm, it is essential for pediatric hospitals and gender clinics to have a gender-affirming mental health attending of the day to assist when TGD youth are feeling unsafe and would benefit from additional support. In this perspectives piece, we present the role, responsibilities, and workflow of the gender-affirming mental health attending of the day and how they offer essential support during mental health crises.
