Abstract
Abstract
The Hybrid NewSpace Approach is a business model concept for start-up companies to enter and then survive within the commercial space environment. Three criteria for start-up companies are introduced here: experience, network, and seed investment. Exemplary analyses of the business models of SpaceX and Virgin Galactic are presented below, and then linked to their respective customer segments to identify innovative key elements of each business model. The supporting role of public–private partnerships from the start-up perspective is brought in focus. Based on this, the Hybrid NewSpace Approach is described as a customer-diversified business model bundle and an essential tool for the long-term commercial survival of a NewSpace start-up.
