The peer-reviewed and accepted but uncopyedited and unproofed paper, “Derivation of Human Sperm from Embryonic Stem Cells,” by Jae Ho Lee, Majlinda Lako, Lyle Armstrong, Mary Herbert, Manyu Li, Wolfgang Engel, Xin Zhang, David Elliott, Miodrag Stojkovic, John Parrington, Alison Murdoch, Tom Strachan, Karim Nayernia, published by Stem Cells and Development (DOI: 10.1089/scd.2009.0063), contains text in the introduction that had been copied, without attribution, from a paper published previously in Biology of Reproduction (Biol Reprod 2007;76:546–551): “In Vitro Gamete Derivation from Pluripotent Stem Cells: Progress and Perspective,” by Makoto C. Nagano.
Although an explanation was offered indicating an accidental cause of the text inclusion, the available evidence does not substantiate the claim. Hence, the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of Stem Cells and Development hereby retract the article.
