Abstract
ABSTRACT
This report describes the laparoscopic evacuation of an ovarian cyst in an infant using a Soft Cup Aspirator® (SCA) followed by cystectomy. A large intra-abdominal cystic lesion (8 × 6 cm) was discovered during maternal ultrasonography at the 34th week. Because the cyst did not show regression and demonstrated signs of torsion after birth, the patient underwent surgery on the 15th day of life. Laparoscopy revealed that the cystic lesion originated in the left ovary. The cyst was evacuated and decompressed by SCA, and then eviscerated. The cystectomy was performed under direct vision. After plasty of the fallopian tube was completed, the tube was returned to its normal position in the pelvis under laparoscopy. Histopathologic examination confirmed a follicular cyst. The SCA is useful in the management of a variety of cystic lesions and prevents spillage of the cyst contents.
