Abstract
ABSTRACT
A new technique for exposing the esophageal hiatus without using liver retractors is described. The left lobe of the liver is lifted up with two sets of through and through V stitches placed at the upper margins of the esophageal hiatus. The operating field is well stabilized, minimizing the risk of liver injuries. The dissection around the abdominal esophagus can be performed under appropriate tissue traction. Four-port laparoscopic fundoplication becomes feasible because the fifth port for retractors can be omitted. This simple and inexpensive technique is an attractive option for laparoscopic fundoplication in children.
