Abstract
ABSTRACT
The authors report their experience with the laparoscopic treatment of direct inguinal hernia in pediatric patients. From April 1993 to September 1997, a series of 201 boys, aged 8 months to 13 years with a mean age of 4 years, came to our observation with an otherwise unspecified clinical diagnosis of inguinal hernia. Direct inguinal hernia was found in three cases (1.5%). In all three cases the parietal abnormality was repaired laparoscopically by positioning nonabsorbable sutures between the two muscular sides of the hernial defect and by closing the intraperitoneal orifice with a purse-string suture. On the basis of this experience, the simplicity and the advantages of laparoscopic diagnosis and treatment of direct inguinal hernias in children are discussed.
