Abstract
ABSTRACT
Diaphragm pacing is a technique to provide long-term assisted ventilation for patients with central hypoventilation syndrome. For children, a bilateral thoracotomy has been required to place the intrathoracic phrenic nerve electrodes. This technique is associated with some morbidity which has been an obstacle for some patients in accepting it. We report the successful placement of phrenic nerve electrodes for diaphragm pacing in a 14-year-old girl via thoracoscopy. This was associated with successful diaphragm pacing and an improvement in the patient's condition.
