ABSTRACT
Until recently, there has been no consensus regarding the classification of either the noninvasive or invasive syndromes of fungal sinusitis. This has led to confusion as to both the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions. I was stimulated by my association with John Salvaggio, M.D., who had a career-long interest in fungal diseases, to conduct a series of studies leading to a proposed new classification for fungal sinusitis. That classification and present notions as to appropriate diagnosis and treatment are reviewed in this paper.
