Abstract
Children frequently have rhinitis from infectious and noninfectious causes. Rhinitis can be associated with other respiratory tract diseases and have a deleterious effect on an affected child. Azelastine has unique properties in blocking both allergic and nonallergic mediated inflammatory reactions. The results of this study show that azelastine has a rapid onset of action, prolonged effect, and favorable safety profile in treatment of both allergic and infectious inflammatory rhinitis in childhood. A limiting factor, however, is its palatability and acceptance by children.
