Abstract
While contact dermatitis to nickel is common, contact mucositis to the nickel component of dental devices rarely occurs. A 2-year old boy with multiple nursing bottle decay underwent restorative treatment with stainless steel crowns. One month later, he developed gingival inflammation that progressed to severe ulcerative contact gingivitis. Patch tests revealed that he was sensitized to nickel. After a battery of prescreening patch tests to the materials for restorative treatment, the patient was successfully treated with composite resin crowns.
