Abstract
Hospital admissions for asthma to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh have continued to increase. Asthma accounted for 8% of hospital admissions between 1986 and 1992. Twice as many males were admitted with asthma as females. Non white children comprise 41% of admissions. Air quality has greatly improved in the greater Pittsburgh area. Asthma admissions peak during the months of September through November. Hopefully the National Asthma Education Program Guidelines distributed in 1992 will have an impact on the rate of asthma hospitalizations.
