Abstract
Forty-four Chinese children were recruited from the Allergy Clinic, University of Hong Kong, and scored for respiratory symptoms with or without associated skin symptoms, with a score of 8 (maximum 16) for inclusion. They were skin tested with Stallerpoint, using mite, cat, dog, Cladosporium, Alternaria, cockroach, cow's milk, egg white, peanut, shrimp, soybean, codfish, and positive and negative controls. Sera were tested with the IVT test for total IgE, mite mix, grass pollen mix, short ragweed, mulberry tree pollen, mold mix, cow's milk, egg white, fish/shrimp, rice, soybean, and positive and negative controls. Children tested positive to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (34/44), cat (8/44), cockroach (5/44), fish (3/44), and dog (3/44). The IVT ELISA detected specific IgE to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (42/44), rice (1/44), and fish/shrimp mix (1/44). A limited number of allergens could screen Chinese allergic children in Hong Kong.
