Abstract
A 1-year-old boy in status asthmaticus developed acute encephalitis with hepatomegaly. The concentration of theophylline changed rapidly and widely according to the liver dysfunction so that we could not control it within the therapeutic range. The theophylline concentration in the cerebrospinal fluid was 46% of that in the serum.
