Fluid Accumulation After Laparoscopic Laser Procedures

Abstract

The CO₂ laser procedure via the laparoscope with continuous irrigation hopefully produces a bloodless, dry surgical field by the end of the procedure. Postoperative drainage tube placement produces significant amounts of high-protein exudate regardless of the type of procedure. The possibility of this exudate producing fibrinous adhesions and the possible alternatives are discussed.
