Abstract
Cholecystectomy is one of the most common surgical procedures performed by the general surgeon in the United States. The surgeon may choose from a variety of instruments, including lasers, to facilitate this operation. This paper presents techniques for performing cholecystectomy with the CO2, Nd:YAG, and KTP lasers. The relative attributes and liabilities of each technique are discussed based on the author's personal experience. Each laser may be useful for this type of procedure.
