Abstract
ABSTRACT
Exposure to soil contaminated by hazardous waste due to direct contact can represent a potential threat to public health. However, a consistent approach for evaluating this medium of exposure has been lacking. A methodology was recently established to develop health-based exposure criteria known as Applied Action Levels for soil contact (AALsoil contact). Sampling objectives to utilize these criteria have also been established. Taken together, the AALssoil contact criteria and appropriate sampling objectives provide a technical basis for evaluating soil as a medium of exposure.
