Abstract
ABSTRACT
A simple and reliable gas chromatographic technique has been developed to measure light chlorinated hydrocarbon species in combustion products. Seventeen stable intermediate species along with conventional combustion products (O2, N2, CO, CO2) are measured using a simultaneous TCD, FID approach. The choice of columns and the methods developed were based on extensive tests conducted over an 18 month period. Nickel, monel, and glass components have been found to provide superior results when compared with Teflon, Del F or Viton materials. The paper provides method detection limits for all compounds identified. The paper also presents typical flat flame data recently obtained for a rich CH2Cl2/CH4/air system. Reliability of the accumulated measurements are demonstrated through the presentation of carbon balances at each spatial location (including the reactant gas stream).
