Abstract
Background:
Gliomatosis peritonei (GP) is implantation of mature glial deposits over peritoneal surface that mimic peritoneal tuberculosis (TB). It is challenging to diagnose coexisting abdominal TB. Hence we report this case diagnosed as mature teratoma with GP and abdominal TB.
Case Report:
Ten-year-old child presented to hospital with fever and abdominal distension for 1 week. magnetic resonance imaging pelvis revealed heterogeneous mass of 12.7 × 10 × 15.7 cm with ascites. Laparotomy and right salpingo-oophorectomy with multiple biopsies of the nodules performed.
Results:
Ascetic fluid cartridge based nucleic acid amplification test positive for TB. Histopathology revealed mature teratoma with GP and focal areas of epitheloid granuloma in omentum. Antitubercular therapy was started. Patient was normal at 6 months follow-up.
Conclusion:
GP with teratoma imparts favorable prognosis but requires extensive sampling to rule out immature elements and malignant deposits. Abdominal TB needs to be considered in differential diagnosis.
