Abstract
Abstract
Background:
For the purpose of adding to the very limited information available on primary introital neuroendocrine carcinoma, this article presents a case of a patient with this condition.
Case:
A 59-year-old woman underwent surgery for an introital tumor. Pathology showed a high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma with 2 of 5 positive ipsilateral groin nodes. Sequential adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy were administered.
Results:
After a progression-free interval of 11 months, the patient developed a distant recurrence and died 1 month later.
Conclusions:
This case adds to the limited information available for this rare vulvovaginal malignancy and may aid in guiding clinicians through considering management options for these difficult cases.
