Abstract
Abstract
Background:
Leiomyoma are common benign pathologies of the uterus that all gynecologists are aware of; however urinary-bladder leiomyoma is rare, and doctors often have no knowledge of this entity.
Case:
A 32-year old, para 2, female had a soft-tissue mass in her urinary bladder but initially refused surgery, as she was asymptomatic. She returned 5 years later with increased urinary frequency and a sensation of incomplete bladder emptying. On laparotomy, a 7 × 6–cm greyish-white mass was removed from the anterolateral wall of her bladder.
Results:
This patient was successfully operated on and was asymptomatic on follow-up. Histology confirmed that the tumor was a leiomyoma of the urinary bladder.
Conclusions:
Doctors should have knowledge of this rare bladder tumor, so that it can be diagnosed and treated earlier.
