Abstract
Abstract
Background:
Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS) of the vulva is an exceedingly rare condition. Only two cases of LGFMS arising from the vulva have been reported in the literature.
Case:
A 45-year-old woman presented with a painless, slow-growing left vulvar mass that had evolved for nearly 6 months. She underwent excision of the swelling under a general anesthetic. The final pathologic diagnosis revealed LGFMS of the vulva and a left radical hemivulvectomy was performed.
Results:
After 2 years, this patient remains free of local or metastatic recurrence.
Conclusions:
Although LGFMS of the vulva is uncommon, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of vulvar lesions. Radical excision is essential to avoid future recurrences.
