Abstract
Background:
The presence of cartilage in the uterine cavity is termed as heterotopic cartilage and a rare entity in cases of primary infertility. Endometrial metaplasia, heteroplasia, infections, retained endometrial tissue, and chronic irritation are being proposed as its etiology on literature, but none of them has been accepted as a single etiological agent till date. Menstrual irregularity, bleeding, infertility, and subfertility are common symptoms. This abnormal condition was first reported in 1925 by Neumann, and since then, 26 cases have been reported and ours is the 27th case in this series.
Case Report:
The present patient was a nulligravida patient admitted with menstrual irregularity and primary infertility. On diagnostic hysteroscopy, the uterine cavity was full of tissue, firm in consistency and whitish in color, and hysteroscopic-guided resection was done. Symptomatically, the patient was normal.
Discussion:
Endometrial metaplasia was suspected as pathology for this heterotopic cartilage in the uterus. (J GYNECOL SURG 31:220)
