Abstract
Background:
Partial Fallopian tubal atresia is a rare anomaly of unknown pathogenesis, with only 28 reported cases, and benign tubal neoplasms are uncommon lesions with only 2 reports of papillomas in PubMed/MEDLINE.®
Case:
These two abnormalities detected concomitantly and incidentally in an asymptomatic subfertile woman at diagnostic hysterolaparoscopy are presented here. The resultant tubal damage precluded satisfactory surgical repair, and salpingectomy was performed. The available literature is also reviewed.
Results:
The postoperative period was uneventful, and at the time of writing this report, the patient is undergoing treatment for subfertility at Fernandez Hospital.
Conclusions:
The serendipitous discovery of concomitant tubal atresia and neoplasia reinforces the relevance of laparoscopy and the merit of meticulous histopathology in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of subtle aberrations associated with infertility. (J GYNECOL SURG 30:314)
