Abstract
Objective:
To evaluate the porcine bladder for simulation of cystotomy repair and assess the educational benefit of didactics and demonstration on the technical skill of cystotomy repair.
Materials and Methods:
The model was a large porcine bladder. The subjects were residents. This was a prospective design using questionnaires and OSATS. An initial lab with evaluation was followed by didactics and a demonstration, followed by another lab with repeat evaluation.
Results:
The fidelity of the model was uniformly rated as good for repair of a dome injury but not for a trigone injury. Following the didactics and demonstration there was significant improvement in technique and overall pass rate as measured by OSATS. Following the labs there was substantial improvement in self-assessment of comfort with repair of a bladder-dome injury.
Conclusions:
The large porcine bladder is an appropriate model for simulation of repair of a cystotomy in the dome of the bladder. (GYNECOL SURG 30:141)
