Abstract
Background:
Leiomyomas are benign mesenchymal tumors that tend to develop in the uterus but there are extrauterine occurences as well, such as in the vaginal wall.
Case:
A 35-year old woman had a history of pelvic and vaginal pain, accompanied by a sensation of a mass in her vagina. Examination revealed that she did indeed have such a mass, and laparoscopic excision was planned to relieve her pain. During the operation, the mass was visualized as bulging through her posterolateral pelvic side wall on her right side. The mass was removed.
Results:
The mass was determined to be a benign vaginal wall leiomyoma. The patient's recovery was uneventful and she had no problems at a follow-up.
Conclusions:
Because vaginal wall fibroid tumors are close to ureters, laparoscopic guidance is recommended for the removal of such tumors. (J GYNECOL SURG 29:143)
