Abstract
Background:
Cervical stenosis is one of the long-term complications of cervical conization that may cause severe symptoms in premenopausal women.
Cases:
Two premenopausal women presented with amenorrhea and hematometra after conization procedure. The symptoms could not be treated by either dilatation and curettage or temporary catheter stent placement, because of a recurrent stenotic cervix. The patients underwent insertion of a Malecot catheter and have had it replaced with a new one every year.
Results:
The patients have been asymptomatic and have had normal menstrual cycles since the patency of cervical canal was maintained by using the Malecot catheter.
Conclusions:
The insertion of a Malecot catheter in the uterine cavity can provide a useful conservative management technique for post-conization stenosis. (J GYNECOL SURG 28:26)
