Abstract
Background:
Malignant mixed Müllerian tumors (MMMTs) are metaplastic carcinomas, including both carcinomatous and sarcomatous elements. Prognosis is poor. Life expectancy is ∼2 years. The mainstay of treatment is surgery with adjuvant chemotherapy.
Case:
A 58-year-old postmenopausal woman presented with postmenopausal bleeding. Fractional curettage hinted toward endometrial adenocarcinoma.
Results:
On laparotomy, a multinodular tumor involving the uterus and fallopian tube was found. The final diagnosis was heterologous MMMT of the uterus and fallopian tube. The patient died during the second cycle of chemotherapy, as a result of septicemia.
Conclusions:
With a highly aggressive nature and limited therapeutic options, MMMTs represent one of the most lethal neoplasms of the female genitourinary tract. (J GYNECOL SURG 28:296)
