Abstract
Background:
Aggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) is a rare myofibroblastic tumor of the pelvis and genital soft tissue.
Case:
This article reports on a case of vaginal AAM that was misdiagnosed as a case of genital prolapse.
Results:
Excision of the tumor was performed with no evidence of recurrence 24 months after surgery.
Conclusions:
Early detection of AAM requires a high index of suspicion. The case presented in this article illustrates the importance of meticulous examination and evaluation of cases preoperatively by a senior consultant. It also demonstrates that, when the vaginal wall descent is disproportionately large, compared to the descent of cervix, other differential diagnoses should always be considered.
