Abstract
Background:
Ectopic pregnancies are known to occur with increased frequency after assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs). However, only 10 cases of bilateral tubal pregnancy have been reported, to date.
Case:
In this article, we report another interesting case of simultaneous bilateral tubal pregnancy secondary to intracytoplasmic sperm injection and the transfer of two embryos. The patient was submitted to laparoscopic bilateral salpingectomy, according to pathologic and clinical findings. The pathologic diagnosis showed ampullar bilateral pregnancies with embryos of 1 cm and focal ulceration of the external tubal surface, with a protrusion of villar formations. Diagnosis of tubal pregnancy is very difficult because of its rarity and asymptomatic state before rupture. However, the early diagnosis is fundamental in order to avoid more serious complications and evitable emergency invasive procedures.
Conclusions:
Thus, routine use of transvaginal sonography for the follow-up of ART should be proposed in order to prevent delay in such a threatened diagnosis. (J GYNECOL SURG 25:89)
