Abstract
Echinococcal disease remains a problem within some endemic areas. Echinococcal cysts usually involve the liver and lungs, but are extremely rarely in the uterus. In this paper, we report the rare case of a 48-year-old woman who was admitted to a surgical ward with abdominal pain. Ultrasonography and computed tomography scanning revealed a large hydatid cystic mass splenic and ureterin hydatid cysts. Serologic tests were positive for echinococcus. The patient was operated on, the splenic cysts were traited by splenectomy, and the uterine cysts were traited by unroofing and drainage. Antihelminthics were administered postoperatively, and the patient was closely followed up for 12 months, without any abdominal pain or recurrence of echinococcus cyst.
