Abstract
Objective:
The aim of this study was to investigate the outcome of vaginoplasty by using an amnion graft for plastic reconstruction of the vagina in Mullerian duct agenesis cases.
Materials and Methods:
In this study, 17 cases of vaginal agenesis over a period of 5 years were analyzed. In all these cases, vaginoplasty was done by using an amnion graft.
Results:
All patients were young adult females between 16 and 20 years of age (mean, 17.41). The incidence of urologic abnormalities was 17.6%. Intra- and post-operative complications were mainly rectal injury, rectovaginal fistula, and stricture of the vagina.
Conclusions:
Amnion graft vaginoplasty appears to be a safe, effective procedure with minimum complications and provides a satisfactory and functional vagina in the majority of patients.
