Abstract
Introduction: Prior studies have suggested that serous endometrial intraepithelial carcinoma is an early form of uterine papillary serous carcinoma. However, because the molecular pathology of this disease is not entirely understood, there is inconclusive evidence regarding patient management and long-term follow-up. Case report: We report on the status of a 61- year-old woman diagnosed with and treated for serous endometrial intraepithelial carcinoma. Pathology revealed strong diffuse p53 overexpression. She underwent total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy, pelvic lymphadenectomy, and surgical staging. All of the removed lymph nodes were negative for malignancy. Conclusions: While studies have reported their standard of practice for treating serous endometrial intraepithelial carcinoma, there are currently no available standard guidelines for the optimal treatment of this disease. Complete surgical staging is recommended to determine appropriate patient management and prognosis.
