Abstract
Background: Acute pelvic pain in women of reproductive age is a common problem, and is a cause of recurrent emergency room (ER) visits. Proper diagnosis makes a significant difference in the management and preservation of reproductive function. Objective: The aim of this study was to describe various etiologies of acute pelvic pain and the clinical picture with management options, as well as to outline the urgency in the evaluation of these patients to avoid complications. Design: University Center Emergency Care in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Conclusions: Cases of acute pelvic pain must receive thorough and immediate evaluation. Delay in seeing these patients, either in our offices or the ER, may lead to complications. Missing a diagnosis may lead to recurrent visits and also complications in the form of hemorrhage and/or sepsis as seen in the cases presented. (J GYNECOL SURG 22:113)
