Abstract
ABSTRACT
Adenoid basal carcinoma is an uncommon cervical neoplasm characterized by slow growth, rare metastasis, and infrequent recurrence. Twelve years after subtotal hysterectomy, a postmenopausal women abnormal Papanicolau smear and high-grade dysplasia. Loop electro– surgical excision procedure showed adenoid basal carcinoma of the cervical stump. This was treated with transvaginal trachelectomy. Although the condition is rare, subtotal hysterectomy may be complicated by nonsquamous cell carcinoma of the cervical stump. Adenoid basal carcinoma is slow growing and rarely metastasizes. Conservative surgical treatment can be used, with a good outcome. (J GYNECOL SURG 16:125, 2000)
