Abstract
ABSTRACT
Subcutaneous endometriomas are uncommon clinical entities usually associated with a previous abdominal incision. The diagnosis can be difficult to make preoperatively, as the differential diagnosis includes hernia, sarcoma, lymphoma, lipoma, subcutaneous cyst, abscess, hematoma, stitch granuloma, and primary or metastatic carcinoma. Magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and ultrasonography can aid in determining the presence of this entity when the history is not diagnostic. Although hormonal therapy has been used with success in the treatment of endometriosis in general, it is of minimal benefit with subcutaneous endometriomas. The mainstay of therapy remains complete surgical excision. (J GYNECOL SURG 14:31, 1998)
