Abstract
ABSTRACT
Oophorectomy is more easily attempted during abdominal hysterectomy than transvaginally. Poor visualization, and therefore access and clamp slippage, are of major concern. Fiberoptic light through the speculum, a bladder retractor, and ovarian clamps can overcome fear and apprehension to facilitate a safe oophorectomy during vaginal hysterectomy. Liberal use of fiberoptic light is strongly recommended to promote oophorectomy during vaginal hysterectomy and avoid more invasive laparoscopic assistance. (J GYNECOL SURG 14:119, 1998)
