Prosthetic Grafts of the Abdominal Wall in Obstetric and Gynecology Patients

Incisional hernias complicate approximately 11% of abdominal procedures. Synthetic graft use is gaining favor as a means of decreasing the high rate of recurrence after repair. We review our recent experience in obstetric and gynecologic procedures in women requiring graft or with previously placed graft. This case series and review of the literature are discussed in order to better understand how to approach the patient with abdominal wall defects that require the use of a synthetic graft.
