Abstract
ABSTRACT
Our purpose was to explore the possibility of performing prophylactic oophorectomy through a posterior colpotomy at the beginning of vaginal hysterectomy. A pilot study of 10 cases is presented wherein it was possible to remove ovaries at the beginning of hysterectomy and recheck on hemostasis and completeness of ovarian excision at the end of the hysterectomy. This was achieved without difficulty or complications. This study provides another avenue of oophorectomy—at vaginal hysterectomy. This experience will also be of a great help when oophorectomy without hysterectomy is required as an alternative modality to laparoscopic oophorectomy in select cases. (J GYNECOL SURG 12:247, 1996)
