Abstract
ABSTRACT
Gonadectomy in women with a dysgenetic gonad is done traditionally by laparotomy. We present a case of laparoscopic removal of intraabdominal testes in a woman with the androgen insensitivity syndrome. A 23-year-old woman was found to have complete androgen insensitivity syndrome. Laparoscopic orchiectomy was performed by mobilizing the testes, isolating and dividing the spermatic vessels cranially, and dividing the gubernaculum caudally. This report confirms the role of laparoscopy in the management of patients with androgen insensitivity syndrome. The testis can be located easily and orchiectomy can be done safely by laparoscopy.
