Abstract
ABSTRACT
Contamination of laparoscopic insufflators with blood and abdominal fluids has been reported. Increases in abdominal pressure above the insufflator's pressure can allow these fluids to flow into the insufflator during laparoscopy. The use of a hydrophobic, disposable bacterial filter between the insufflator and the patient is recommended to help prevent the flow of blood, abdominal fluids, and airborne bacteria into the insufflator, reducing the likelihood of cross contamination.
