Abstract
ABSTRACT
In a carefully selected patient with stage Ia2 carcinoma of the cervix, a vaginally assisted laparoscopic radical hysterectomy with pelvic node dissection was performed using scissors, atraumatic forceps, and bipolar coagulation. The postoperative course was uneventful. The patient had normal Pap smears and clinical examination 21 months after the procedure. This case demonstrates that radical hysterectomy may be achieved by laparoscopy. However, technologic progress and prospective clinical trials with long-term follow-up are required to establish that this new approach is efficient and safe so that it may be proposed as an alternative to other techniques of radical hysterectomy.
