Abstract
ABSTRACT
Alcian blue dye in dilute acetic acid was applied to 54 opened cone biopsy specimens. The dye was found to highlight the position of the squamocolumnar junction by producing a line of demarcation between acetowhite and blue-stained tissue. Following application of the dye, a close correlation was observed between the naked eye and histologic assessments of complete disease excision. This rapid simple staining technique may allow the gynecologic surgeon to assess the adequacy of conization at the time of surgery. (J GYNECOL SURG 5:375, 1989)
