Abstract
ABSTRACT
Forty-two patients with biopsy-proved cervical human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and no histologic or colposcopic evidence of cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia (CIN) or extracervical disease underwent carbon dioxide laser vaporization of transformation zone, proximal endocervical canal, and laser "brushing" of the portio of the cervix. After 12 months of follow-up, 34 patients (81%) had no evidence of disease. Seven of the eight patients who developed recurrent disease presented with external genital warts. Treatment was quickly performed in an out-patient clinic, usually without local anesthesia, and was well-tolerated with minimal morbidity.
