Abstract
ABSTRACT
Leiomyomas are the most common benign tumors of the uterus during the reproductive age. Whereas some myomas remain asymptomatic, many cause infertility, habitual abortion, pregnancy complications, menometrorrhagia, and pelvic pain and pressure. Myomectomy is the treatment of choice during the reproductive age in order to preserve fertility. This procedure can be accomplished by many methods. We have used carbon dioxide lasers combined with microsurgical techniques to excise or vaporize the myomas directly or indirectly. The advantages are improved hemostatis, greater precision–thus removing only abnormal tissue–the ability to remove fibroid from inaccessible areas, decreased normal tissue injuries, and less adhesion for formation.
