Abstract
ABSTRACT
A two-year prospective study was conducted to evaluate the incidence of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) in women with a Class II Papanicolaou smear. As many as 22.4% of patients evaluated had histopathologic evidence of CIN as demonstrated by colposcopically directed biopsies. The implication of these findings stresses the use of descriptive cytological nomenclature of the cervical smear to guide the clinician in deciding whether further management of patients with abnormal Pap smears should include colposcopy.
