Abstract
ABSTRACT
An evaluation of laser vaporization, as a treatment of cervical infection with human papilloma virus (HPV), was carried out at the University Hospital of Jacksonville, Florida. Patients were entered in the study after colposcopic examination and directed biopsies. Only those patients with HPV lesions and no evidence of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia were eligible. All were treated with laser vaporization of the entire transformation zone to a depth of 5 mm. Thirty-one patients were treated. Six had persistent HPV cervical lesions after one treatment, for 20% failure rate. Four of these six patients were successfully treated with a second laser vaporization. There were no serious complications of treatment.
